BLACK FRIDAY

(Anonymous) 2015-11-27 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Is anyone going to be braving this tomorrow? Have any stories of years past? I've always been against it (especially since those cashiers were trampled to death opening the doors that one year) so I've never gone. My mother did once and someone just walked up and grabbed something out of her cart.

Hell no. I don't understand the appeal at all, especially now that so many places to simultaneous cyber sales.

Hell no! Tried to once. Went in and it was a madhouse. Picked up some wash clothes, saw how long the line was, put them back down, and left.

I just spent all of my money on online cyber sales already, so no.

I'll accidentally do it tomorrow*, but in a Norwegian way so I don't think anything special except loads of people will happen...

*I need to buy my little sister a birthday and a Christmas present because I have haven't had time earlier.

here is where I'd put a rant about how stupid it is that Norway is doing Black Friday, but I can't be bothered...

I don't do "normal" shopping. Fuck gifts. But I do go to the fabric stores because they have everything my business needs for stupid deals. I can make a year's budget in a month selling fleece scarves, of course I'm going to Hancock's for 1.97/yard.

I save a shitload on annual stock-up for the business, so I sort of have to.

The only time I ever went shopping on Black Friday was at a fabric store (did not bother trying to get there early, though).

I have the day off and usually u go hang out at the bookstore, so I have the urge to do that but I need to keep reminding myself that no, it won't be relaxing.

Hell no. I get sensory overload from stores as it is, I can't imagine going shopping on Black Friday.

Nope nope nope. I don't like the idea of Black Friday (even more loathsome is how it now often starts on Thursday night, seriously fuck that shit with a cactus) and I'm not interested in getting up or dealing with traffic/long lines for some shopping. I mean I have to work tomorrow, but even if I didn't, I wouldn't be shopping.

I'm not doing it this year but I've done it in years past (and I just got back from Target an hour ago). Mostly I think people overhype the hysteria. At least where I live, it's not so bad. Granted, I don't ever try for door busters because they're usually not worth it and most of them aren't things I'm interested in. They usually go too quickly anyway.

But I usually get good deals on movies and gifts. It depends where you go. For instance, Target is always super ready for Black Friday. Everything is set up conveniently with lots of employees to ask for help (who actually can help and know where stuff is). Whereas Walmart is a disaster. You can never find anyone to ask a question and their good stuff goes immediately (Target stocks plenty). They actually barricade the store in such a way that you can't travel easily from one place to another. I wouldn't ever recommend going to them, no matter how good a deal.

I've been shopping more on Amazon lately, but I'm a late riser so I miss some of their countdown deals (and I find those addictive so I've been avoiding looking at their deals lately). My mom does a lot of Black Friday but she doesn't get crazy either. She's just normally up at an ungodly hour anyway so she checks deals out if there's something that interests her. I find that if you arrive 15 minutes after opening, the crowds and craziness have thinned and you can still get great deals.

Nope. I have no money. And even if I did I hate black friday. I'd only ever shop online tomorrow. It just isn't worth it.

The tradition in my family is to go to a museum, but those tend to be pretty mobbed, to. We all like to get out of the house if the weather isn't shitty, but we try to find something to do that no one else is doing.

Re: BLACK FRIDAY

Black Friday is shit.

I did shop years ago when it did not used to be shit. It was an interesting experience, and everyone seemed to have fun, despite getting up at o'dark thirty. Got some nice work pants and a fuzzy jacket.

I will not do Black Friday again unless it goes back to happening NO MORE THAN ONCE A YEAR, BEGINNING FRIDAY MORNING DURING AN HOUR THAT IS SEVERAL HOURS PAST MIDNIGHT, NOT THURSDAY, NOT ANY PORTION OF THURSDAY. Fuck you, greedy companies, this is turkey time.

And your lame deals aren't even deals anyway, just items returned to their original prices after the preceding markup.
