Human characters who act like dogs

(Anonymous) 2015-11-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I had a weird fandom conversation last night where this topic was brought up - basically, I'm 100% sure "Human characters who act like dogs" or have dog-like characteristics are a thing that happens in fiction, but no examples are coming to mind. Help me out?

Do you mean regular real-world-ish human character? Or do half-human half-dog-demons count?

Because if the latter, there's Inuyasha: https://38.media.tumblr.com/8a3b86f70a2559d7d221563e3c29368f/tumblr_n76y7jmZPd1suf5t1o1_500.gif

O.O

That...that might literally be the cutest thing I have ever seen in my entire life. (And mind, I've never actually watched this show.)

I mean, Caine from Jupiter Ascending was part dog or something, so I don't know if he counts.

How dog like do you want? There was a lot of meta a while back about Dean Winchester being...dog coded? I don't know.

Dog-coded? WTF does that mean?

I'm not sure what "dog coded" means exactly, but there was also an episode where Dean had dog mannerisms after basically getting mind melded with a dog (season 9 episode 5). It's as ridiculous as it sounds but it's a pretty funny episode

First one to come to mind was Yachiyo Inugami from Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san. That's kind of her schtick.

There's the Puppy Love potion in Mirror, Mirror.

After consuming it, the prince (Armie Hammer) begins behaving like a dog.

Sheldon Cooper on Big Bang Theory. Sometimes Penny and Leonard are like his parents and he expresses child traits (like when they took him to Disneyland). And sometimes he has dog traits where he has to wait by the door or Leonard says he takes Sheldon to the park once a week for exercise, etc.

Uh, well, this may not be the angle you're going for, but the character of Helo on BSG always reminded me of a Rottweiler. He was this big, muscular man, a good fighter, but he was utterly loyal to his commander Adama, his fellow crewmates, and his wife, and never got aggressive with them, even when it was warranted or expected.

There was a great illustration of this in a scene where he and his wife, Athena, had just had their baby kidnapped, and Athena just shut down emotionally instead of looking for the baby. Helo got frustrated and angry with her, and there was a moment in the scene where I thought for sure he was going to grab her and shake her violently or scream in her face or something to get her to snap out of it and help him find their baby. Instead, he just pleaded with her, like he was begging, and cried. I was really touched by that decision on the part of the actor not to get physical with her (especially since the actress was incredibly thin and fragile-looking, and he probably had 150 pounds on her). He just reminded me so much of a big protective dog who could readily attack others on command, but was unfailingly loyal and gentle with his People.
