+1

I'm ashamed to say that I have totally judged Marjorie M. Liu's books by their covers, despite the fact that she's one of my favorite comics writers. Well, no longer; I'm checking her out the next time I go to the library.

Holy shit you will not be disappointed. My love affair with her stuff started years ago, way before I even knew she wrote comics. I was hard up for a book to read and I was in Borders (RIP), I picked up her "Eye of the Tiger" book and was like "I NEED MORE". Her characters intrigued me from the moment I realized that the heroine of that story had her own powers and she wasn't just a complete damsel in distress. That's one of the things I enjoy about Liu's books. She has powerful female characters that don't feel like stereotypes.

If you're not big on romance, read her Hunter Kiss series first. The romance takes a backseat to awesome worldbuilding.
