That was after she developed a relationship with him, and she only found out when Peter was alive again.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
So in other words it was a genuine relationship where both cared for each other and Anna Maria didn't harbor any ill will towards Otto. What's the problem?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
She wouldn't have agreed to it in the beginning if she had known he was a mass-murderer super villain who had killed a superhero and stolen his body.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
You're looking for a victim where there is none.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Peter and Ana Maria are the victims.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Funny how neither of them view it that way.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Peter doesn't?

And until it's retconned so Ana Maria knew from the start, it was rape regardless of how Slott chooses to write it.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Not in regards to Ana Maria. That was one of the few things he felt any sympathy for Otto for.

And the official stance from Marvel is that it wasn't rape as Ana Maria did not know Peter or Otto and vice versa.

marvel can say the sky is green, it's still going to be blue.

Whoop there it is

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
That's nice. Otto is still a rapist despite what Brevoort says.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Even if it is it's puzzling as to why you found a mutually loving relationship to be more upsetting than Mystique's attempt to literally screw Wolverine over.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think trying to romanticize rape is more upsetting.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
You also seem to think that rape is justifiable if the person is bad enough.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
No, I just think murder and sexualized violence is worse.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
You said portraying a victim of rape as a victim was 'skeevy' because of their actions, no?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
So Bob stalks Barbara, brutally stabs her while she's naked, and then leaves her bleeding out to die.

She survives, so he goes after again and kills her for real, but the hospital is able to revive her in time.

Barbara later pretends to be Bob's ex with plastic surgery or whatever and has sex with him.

It's skeevy to act like Bob is the poor innocent victim and Barbara is the villain here.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Is Barbara a superpowered mass-murderer rapist with shape-shifting abilities who tried to commit genocide on a global scale?

DA, read Superior Spider-Man really carefully because I was sure it was going to go that way, but Anna Maria didn't think Otto was Peter, because she didn't know Peter or Otto. It's wrong that he didn't tell her about the mindswap, obviously, but it's much more a case of leaving out huge chunks of his past than actually convincing her to fall for someone who wasn't real. Otto-as-Peter was totally real, for both of them. It's douchey and a bit off, but ultimately read as really sweet, and isn't rape.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Rape is a form of sexualized violence though.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Did Don Draper rape Betty, and hell, every woman who didn't know he was really Dick Whitman?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know enough about the show to say, but afaik he didn't actually kill someone and steal their body.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
No, however, he pretended to be someone he was not, and had sex with people while pretending to be that person. I think it's similar because the women he's slept with have never met either Don Draper or Dick Whitman, so either one would be a stranger, and he didn't pretend to be Don Draper IN ORDER to sleep with them, it was just incidental. BUT. Maybe if they knew who he really was, they wouldn't have slept with him.

DA

To be totally fair here, rape by deception is absolutely a thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

It is. But I'm wondering about the boundaries of it. Is it rape by deception if someone doesn't reveal something really big about their past to you, such as an identity change, or is it only rape by deception if you trick the person into having sex with you because they think you're someone they have an existing thing with?
