Same! In the books, there was just no romance at all for me. I didn't think Katniss could be happy with either romantic partner, and more than that, I don't think she would've made either partner happy, either. If anything, I thought Gale would have to be the choice because they could've been violent and miserable together.

I honestly feel that Jennifer Lawrence managed to breathe more life into Katniss, and into the romance as well. I still don't think there was much sexual attraction going on, but I liked how close her and Peeta were. I felt really good about the ending, which surprised me, with Peeta showing up at her home and such. It just suited Lawrence's Katniss so much better.

The feeling I got from thebooks was that Katniss wasn't interested in either of them at all, but made the intellectual decision that being with Peeta would be better for her (unfortunately it seems like she didn't really realise that not getting with either of them was also a viable options). I know Gale and Peeta sort of joke about that but it seems to be completely true. I didn't detect even the slightest hint of genuine romantic interest from her.

Haven't seen the latest movies though so I can't comment on those.

Yeah, I suppose that's true. It was an intellectual decision for her. Which maybe is fine, but I always felt like it was going to be a sad relationship, with Katniss not too into it and Peeta ultimately getting depressed around her.

I think the movies did have a little bit more romance - just a few sparse moments. Or maybe I should say, moments that felt a bit more emotionally intimate? I'm not sure they were necessarily sexual, but yeah, I felt there was more of some sort of relationship between the two.

How... do you write off the blatant & growing feelings she has for Peeta? I don't have books now so I can't quote, but.. they are literally there in the text, in her mind. Not in your face, but... still.

Oh yeah I like that ending, it's the epilogue (second ending?) my beef is. The rest of it fit? Like it wasn't super hardcore romance but more like two people who have been changed so much and understand each other and so fit together...not neatly, but better than they'd fit with someone who hasn't been forced through it all.

Almost an unhealthy codependency I think, but tbh considering the surroundings of their life - healthy at the time!

IDK, I saw it as two people who walked through hell together and got one another. Peeta is a softer person than Katniss, and he sort of helps her come back around to being okay, and even daring to feel secure enough to have children. They will both always be going through the PTSD, but I felt more like they found strength and healing in one another.

This is how I read it from the books (I decided to wait and see the movies all at once, and no $ for movie tickets, so I suppose I'll be waiting until this comes out on video). I can't say anything about the movie, but when people complained about the ending of the book... it made sense to me, because when you go through hell together like Katniss and Peeta did, trying to find someone else who "gets it" is... hard. I'm not sure either of them would have really had a successful relationship with someone else at that point, because they'd both been through too much, and both of them "got it". Even though I really do like Gale better than Peeta, it at least was a logical conclusion (including her changing her mind on kids; I know a lot of people were up in arms about that, but even as a CF person, it seemed that much of her conviction to not have kids was based on her not wanting to worry and perhaps even see her children called for the Hunger Games, so the change made sense to me -- that's no longer a concern; it could have been built up more, no idea how they did it in the movie).
