It's still an example of making something political, though. They may think they're right to state such things, but fact remains it's still a political stance they're taking all the same.

Yeah, unfortunately even pointing that out won't work, because they literally think that "armed Parisians would have saved everybody" is reality and therefore can't possibly be a political stance, and arguing against that idea IS a political stance.

I know a lot of conservatives who like to claim they're apolitical when the reality is, they're just as political as anyone else, they just think they're spouting "common sense."
