I think this was a conscious decision on the show's writer. She didn't want to show the rape(s) that occurred for a number of reasons.

1. Ew.

2. It adds more to telling an actual rape victim's experience. We have to believe her word. We see the effects and as the audience, we believe her, but also, awfully, get why the outside world won't. It plays right into the standard story of "he said" that she wanted it and "she said" she didn't and any proof either way is questioned, so people default toward the "he said."

3. There are enough depictions of violence against women out there. Why not show the aftermath of a survivor who can fight back? That's where the real story is.

3. should be framed and put on the wall in every writer and director's office. Rape has become the "go to" reason for mental anguish and revenge. There's other hardships in life people, and variation is a good thing.
