First, grab lots of awesome freebies from OnRez. Nicky Ree has a fabu freebie dress up there, and there are free skins there as well. If you head to The Shelter in Isabel, I know for sure that there are a few free skins on the freebie table. (Tell 'em Pati sent you, and they'll ask you if I'm still alive.)

Do a search in-world for The Free Dove, too. I grabbed all sorts of useful things there when I was new. Then there's the low-cost content creators. I'm a sucker for Kin Keiko hair and each one's only $100L.

Also, I freely admit that Pati is a twig. In public. I call her my Barbie, because she is...my problem is more with proportion than it is with the stick figures. (Though honestly, if you go into some of the bigger fashion houses, you'll find more amazons with LONG LEGS and HUGE GAZOOMBAS and BUTTS YOU COULD REST A DINNER PLATE ON than the more realistic sculpt on my skinny-girl av who is pear-ish--small-chested, but with broader hips and a butt.)

If you have the resources, check out /artilleri/ for clothes. Antonia Marat designs them around a character model that has a very realistic body type.
