1. I really do wish you would call your friend out on it. I know it would be hard, especially if she dramas a bit. But really, if someone's art looks the exact same as it did five years ago, that's only sad.

2. Man, do I hear you. I couldn't even get past the first chapter. The writing was just so bad. It wasn't a bad book for something written by a sixteen-year-old. Unfortunately, it wasn't a bad book...for something written by a sixteen year old. The storyline was unimaginative, and the actual writing style wasn't anything I couldn't find in a mediocre fic. I think he deserves props for actually finishing a book, because that's gotta be the hard bit, but other than that...*sigh*

11. Chahles Emmerson Winchester the Third!!! You rock so very much for having a secret with him in it.

23. I'm kind of confused by you shipping it platonically (which I understand) by "not being open." If you like them as brothers for their interaction, what's to be open about. Romance doesn't "get in the way" of it.
I do love them so.

31. Okay, y'know what? You? You fail. Not for the secret, but for making a "I wish more people liked this series" secret and not actually saying what friggen series it is. Sorry, it's a little tricky to google a picture. You want to spread the word on your fandom, fine. How 'bout telling us what the fandom is.

40. Yes. Yes they do. Why does that bother you so much? Maybe some people just want to start a chat with strangers about their fandom opinions. Maybe some people just don't feel like having the drama with their friends. Maybe some people just want to see if anyone actually agrees with them. Yeesh.

55. Sweet pants, another shallow Billie Piper secret. Y'know, I'll admit, when I first started watching the show, I thought she was really funny-looking. She does have that mouth. But then I decided it kind of didn't matter. It's stupid and annoying to have a double-standard on actors vs. actresses, and I'm sick of it. Chris Eccleston and David Tennant are both hella funny-looking, but they're both stil very attractive. William H Macy is ridiculously funny-looking, but I'll still watch him.
Heck, I like that Billie Piper is kind of distinctive-looking. Most actresses look like clones.

Plus, now I think she's kinda cute.

56. Thank you for saying it.

63. That's quite pretty. What is it?

64. *Sigh* Yeah.

70. Technically, Neverwhere got me through my Ordeal (well, an ordeal), since I read the whole thing while hiding in a bathroom at a speech tournament to get away from a creepy stalker guy.
But seriously, it's a fantastic pick-me-up story, and I absolutely love it. I love everything Neil Gaiman's written (well, Beowulf aside...), but I'll always think that this is his best. This is the one that just...has it all, but just enough. It's fantastic. In the literal sense.

73. Oh. Oh please. My friend, I'm an English nerd too. My friends are English majors (a fate I only narrowly escaped). We will pause in the middle of just about every discussion to debate the finer points of grammar.
Slang is not slaughter. There's good slang and there's bad slang, and phrases like "like burning" are just-for-fun-slang. There's nothing wrong with them. Slang gives speech flavour. What makes Firefly so darn fun to watch? Oh, lots of things, but probably the slightly-evolved English.
So I hella love slang like woah and want to find more fun and colourful phrases like burning.

So there.

Thank you. I get annoyed when people assume that anyone who uses slang (including internet slang) does it because they don't know "proper" English or don't care.

I just wanted to tell you that someone did say what the books were up above...(31)

The "Truth" books by Dawn Cook. Btw.

And as a general comment towards your comment about Billie Piper, well I think she looks nice, but also a lot of people are shallow, and we've had plenty of secrets about actors too (I'm remembering one about Gaspard Ulliel a few weeks ago). It's stupid though.

Also so much word towards 73, I agree so much.

"Being open about it" was in reference to joining the fandom. The entire fandom is riddled with badfics, regardless of pairing.

Okay, I also posted the Moxy Fruvous secret yesterday? You spook me with your awesome taste.

Lol, well, to be perfectly honest, I've only heard one of their songs ("King of Spain") so far. Like I said yesterday, it's only because of Great Big Sea that I know about 'em.

...then again, GBS has educated me towards lots of awesome bands.

Seriously, though, geek pop and Winchester? I believe you're the one with awesome tastes, my friend.

Can someone explain why you lot put exclamation marks in between words sometimes, instead of spaces?
Also, regarding "like burning", it grates on me a little but hardly enough to warrant a secret, y'know?

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-02-21 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the exclamation point thing would use used in phrases like Tennant!Doctor or Emo!Harry. It's a specific type of whatever-you're-referring-to, as opposed to just saying "emo Harry" which is simply Harry being emo. "Emo!Harry" would be like its own classification of Harry. I never actually asked for a definitiong--I just picked up the meaning from context clue.
...it's something I use fairly often, but I can't think of any other instances right now.
It's basically just playing with the English language; no reason to come off all condescending. Odds are, plenty of dorks, nerds, geeks, and other inhabiting fandom are English nerds themselves.

It's Two Men Contemplating the Moonlight by Caspar David Friedrich.

His work is very pretty.
