Hazel trees

Hey, does anyone know why some Hazel trees have light bark and some dark? My pearson's prolific has a really light color of bark but the gunselbert has a really dark bark. And the two hedging hazels have sort of a middling color. Why is that?

Because different individuals of the same species have a dominant allele for a darker (or lighter- I have no idea which one would be recessive) colored bark and others do not.

Duh.
