Yes they'll become a thing, yes some prudes will try to ban them, no they will not succeed. When has banning something sex related ever worked?

Mate, the Express is the paper even the Mail thinks is trashy and dishonest. Also it is owned by a porn baron, of course it is going to come out against sex robots. They are his competitors.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, there are a LOT of ethical issues that could arise here.

On the other hand...

I would like to have robot girlfriend. Not just a sex toy, mind you; an actual girlfriend who is also a robot. That would be cool.

How does it raise ethical issues? I don't ask my vibrator if it was good for it? That is all sex robots will be, better dildos.

If sexbots with sentience are developed (and they very well might be at some point in the future), would that not raise ethical issues?

I see no reason to ban them.

The only thing I would say is, if they're sentient, they shouldn't be anyone's property. But that's a broader point about robotics and AI. Other than that, fucking go for it.

You mean Sapient, not Sentient.

You can own sentient things, spaient is a whole nother basket of kittens.

Yeah, sure they'll be a thing.

As for banning them, why would you? In my book it would only become a problem if they reach human-level sentience and consent would be an issue (and really, we're nowhere near that point yet).

And even then it wouldn't rule out robot sex, you'd just have to ask them nicely.

I could see them becoming a thing and tbh so long as they didn't have human level sentience I don't see why they'd need to be banned, they'd just be way more sophisticated sex-toys is all. They'd probably ungodly expensive when they first come out anyway so it's not like suddenly everyone would have one.

I don't want them banned, because I actually want them to become a thing. If, in my lifetime, actually attractive and functional male sexbots could be made, my relationship needs would be easily met.

Same here. Honestly, it wouldn't even have to be "attractive". I think uncanny valley would turn me off faster than "oh hi I'm obviously a robot".

Physical gratification with no chance of pregnancy or STDs? Sign me up!

(Not that I think full-on relationships are a bad thing, but I just got out of a 15-year-long, abusive one. I'd rather be single for a while right now.)

No problem with the idea whatsoever.

I worry about software glitches.

I would love for sex robots to happen because I kind of want to have a threesome but I don't think I could do with a real person.
