Two rants

(Anonymous) 2015-11-29 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like I'm too nerdy for some internet circles, not enough for others. This makes it hard to find fandoms, because I'm not into a lot of geek/nerd things that have them, and it also makes it hard to discuss the things I like because the only people also discussing them just say "I liked it" or "I didn't like it" and are lost when you press further. It's weird because this has included things I know have nerd/geek followings, even if they're not sci fi/fantasy books/movies/shows.

On a related note, I miss when the internet still had a sense of humor. I don't mean in the sense that everything turns into social justice wank - I mean in the sense that I don't feel I can be fun anymore. There's definitely drama in my life right now, but I don't want to talk about that the way my friends do. I want to actually laugh and make jokes and be completely dorky and quirky and silly. I don't mind if other people want to talk about their problems, that's totally fine and I am more than willing to listen, but are we really not allowed to have fun anymore? And if there IS humor on the internet, it's angry and sardonic and cynical. Or creepy dudebro humor. ("Five Girls You'll Fuck in College." I'm guessing I am not your target audience...)

I mean... FFS. Have a fucking laugh. About something not dudebroish or cynical.

IA with both, so so so hard.

And frankly I expect most people on F!S agree with both

Both of those problems sounds like you're not hanging out with the crowd that's right for you.

"On a related note, I miss when the internet still had a sense of humor."

This doesn't even make any sense. The internet isn't homogeneous about anything, never mind something as subjective as humor.

I'm like this about certain things that I haven't watched/played/read in a long, long time, which is why I try not to mention them or comment on them in the first place (and if I do, I try to make it clear I'm not the world's biggest fan); I know I'm not going to be the best conversationalist.

Then there are certain things I can talk in length about but the people I know either don't want to, or get tired of it after awhile. *shrugs* It happens.

AYRT - There's nothing wrong with that, I'm that way about some things too. It's just frustrating when I'm so excited about something and the response is basically "oh yeah cool beans." I especially don't get it when it's comms - why start a comm for a show you don't care about beyond "it was cool beans"?

Wait, a comm owner said this? (Or, well, did this?) That I don't understand; I wouldn't go to the trouble of creating a comm if I didn't want to talk about it in depth.
