Re: rant thread

I hate the term legbeard. There's nothing wrong with women having leg hair. It's not as if leg hair gets really stinky and gross like armpit hair, so why are people so opposed to it?

I mean, I recognize that for several reasons the analogy isn't precise, but I'm pretty sure people only use the term legbeard in the first place because the term neckbeard exists

AYRT

There's nothing wrong with neckbeards either though. I dislike the way they look, but I can't expect people to dress and groom themselves only in ways that I personally approve of. That would be ridiculous.

People associate it with a certain subculture and use it as an insult, just like people associate neckbeards with a certain culture and use it as an insult.

People with both leg and neck hair can be hygienic and clean, but it's not literally about the hair.

So why not come up with an insult that targets their attitudes and their beliefs instead of their fashion choices?

The neckbeard thing was first, and legbeard appears to be an attempt at shooting back in kind.

But IDK, ask both sides. They both do it.

The term 'legbeard' might be posterior to 'neckbeard', but people insulting women's leg hair and using it as an attack against feminists has been happening for decades.

OMG thank you.

If they're being a creep, call them a creep, don't make dumb comments about where their body hair is.

I felt this way when everyone seemed to be using neckbeard, (and when I commented on disliking it the response was a stupid 'shave your neck') and I feel the same way about legbeard.

This is literally the second time in my life I've heard it used.

Same. The first time for me was actually yesterday, and in this very comm.

First for me. What a weird term. (And on the topic of leg hair, while I like the feeling of shaved legs, if I'm not wearing a skirt or shorts I'm probably not shaving my legs. I'm lazy.)

I'm sort of casual about leg hair. I'll shave it if going to the beach or wearing a summer dress, but I'm not exactly fanatical about removing it in the cold months.

In winter I don't really see the point. (At least for me, if I'm going to wear a skirt I'll wear leggings or tights under it. Hell, I typically do that anyway, but if they're sheer I'll shave.)

This is me. If I'm wearing a skirt or shorts or capris, I shave. If I'm just wearing long pants which is most of the time, I don't bother.

First time I've heard of it. I thought was some kind of pirate name. Like a pirate with a beard made out of legs. Miniature ones.

Also the second time I've heard it (first time was recently, here on FS? I assumed neckbeard had been mixed up.

Still not entirely comprehending this new term. Is someone trying to make it happen?

it's dumb men offended by the term "neckbeard" trying desperately to make the female equivalent "legbeard" happen

I think it's less likely to catch on than "fetch"...

On further thought, wouldn't skank be the equivalent?
