Often when something takes up so much of your time and effort, you lose perspective on your life as a whole. Parents talking about kids is widely accepted in culture, even if it gets tiresome. Ditto home renovation. People bond over the anecdotes or troubles and it becomes an easy default way to make smalltalk.

If you don't like it, maybe you could learn how to nudge the conversation in another direction. Politely, of course. And keep in mind that there have surely been situations where you are the one talking someone's ears off about a subject you love, but they don't.
