Holy fuck do women have the short end of the reproductive stick.

On on the one hand, kinda pissed about this unnecessary comment. Other hand, have to LOL because this thread is like nothing at all. This shit can get soooo much worse than what you've just read.

I was trying to express my sympathy in a non-patronizing way, because this shit sounds painful and terrible.

Eh, it came across pretty patronizing to me, but it's probably only me.

Anyway, yeah it can be pretty shitty.

Well I am pretty humbled by the suckitude of shit you all have to deal with each month. Or, more frequently sometimes, I guess.

Though for the record, not all periods are like this. Mine is a bit of blood and that's it. Not that I'm saying you shouldn't be sympathetic/considerate towards people who have menstrual struggles; I definitely think those people deserve to have their pain treated as valid and have it recognized that this is a lousy thing to have to deal with. I just want to set the record straight on periods: some of them are really and truly almost unnoticeable.

Not sure what would piss you off about this comment. It's totally true.

IDK it has a hint of "thankful it's them and not me" to it.

"Sucks to be you, glad I'm not dealing with that" is a pretty common, not always conscious thread in how dudes react to women's problems, and it can get really, really frustrating to hear over and over again.

Herpy was probably just the straw that broke the camel's back, so he's the one who got snapped at for it.

But we DO have it hard. We have periods, which suck, and if we want to make a kid we have to carry the fucking thing for 9 months and let it feed off us and destroy our fucking bodies. Oh and the price of our periods finally stopping is going fucking nuts for a couple years and our vaginas getting dry as fuck.

Why are you so upset about that being acknowledged and why is it backhanded to acknowledge it? I'd much rather a guy recognize it's tough than act like it's no big deal and women are just weak and whiny.

But from the looks of things, there's literally no way a man could say it sucks that women have periods without you interpreting it badly, because apparently someone saying "you have it worse than me" is an unforgivable insult.

How fortunate that you can extrapolate everything I would say from the one comment I made! That saves me a lot of time, since I don't have to continue this conversation anymore.

Wow you're annoying.

Periods do suck, but I can see why someone would feel pissed off. Sometimes I get the feeling it's just plain WORSE to be a woman, and it's depressing, and some people will react to feeling that by being angry. Especially if the person mentioning it is the "better" type of person. I do realize herpy was not trying to be patronizing or rude, though (and I'm not angry at him, I can just get why someone might feel angry).

His comment was fine. What else do you want a guy to say about periods? "Lol, silly womenz making a fuss about nothing"? At least herpy acknowledged that periods can be really shitty; my ex used to get all patronizing when I was literally in tears from the pain of my period.
