Rats.

Best pet. Extremely intelligent and incredibly emotionally intuitive.

All other rodent pets are not good pets, imo.

My best friend's sister has a couple pet rats that I always play with when I go to their house while my friend shakes her head at me. Rats are definitely underappreciated.

Back in Harry Potter days, I wondered more than once if any of the Marauders, including Peter himself, appreciated how badass his Animagus form was. Really, given the things that rats can do, he would have made an ideal Secret-Keeper if it weren't for the teensy-weensy fact that he was already working for Voldemort.
