So I just found out that they are releasing a new Pee - Wee movie next year.

Like... Wha... How? How can they even market this movie, giving that it's starring a sex offender? I mean, certainly you can't market this to little kids.

Maybe they have someone else playing Pee-Wee? And the sex offender thing was kind of...weird, if you read it. A lot of what happened seemed to have been dismissed later, and he's not a registered sex offender, at this point, from what i can see.

By "sex offender" do you mean "guy who got in trouble for jacking off in a porn theatre"?

Because that's not so bad, really. To my knowledge he's never sexually assaulted or harassed anyone.

Didn't he just jack off in a movie theater? He never assaulted anyone, raped anyone, or hurt a child. I don't see the big deal?

He was investigated on suspicion of possession of child-porn about a decade ago - mostly due to having been friends with Jeffrey Jones, who was also under investigation at the time (and ultimately convicted). Reubens pled to a lesser charge, but it's acknowledged by everybody that the 'sexually explicit' stuff didn't exist and the handful of decades-old nudes he had were certainly purchased without knowing what they were, as part of a package deal. He was briefly made to register as a sex offender after that, but that was temporary.
