JKR just went on a Twitter tangent defending Snape. The crazy Snape assholes were right all along!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, no, she made the point that he was someone who both did a lot of really awful shit *and* sacrificed his life to defeat Voldemort.

Which seems very fair to me. And I am pretty fucking anti-Snape.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. If some Snapewife went made the same comments you anti-Snape people would have laughed at them. But voice of god and all that, so it's right.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No I wouldn't have. Sorry you're salty, I guess.

JKR's rant was just as embarrassing as anything written by those "Sev" defenders.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Was it? I didn't find it particularly embarrassing.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-02 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Nuance is -embarrassing.

Nope , we gotta keep to that ol' black and white thinking

(Anonymous) 2015-12-02 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Since when does "well articulated, and in agreement with what we saw in the novels" equal embarrassing?

Wasn't embarrassing to me. I really appreciate that she's remained engaged with the story and obviously still cares about it and wants to continue encouraging her fans (especially the younger fans) to think about and discuss some of the more salient conceptual aspects of her stories.

You're crazy. Snape was an abusive asshole--she's made that point many times--and he died to help defeat Voldemort.

link? I'm curious.

I love the comment about Draco.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-02 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I hate Snape, and I thought it was a very nuanced comment. She wasn't excusing his actions at all. He did sacrifice himself to stop Voldemort. That is true. But she also says that he is not a nice person and did a lot of bad things, which most Snape fans don't seem to want to admit. And her idea of Harry naming his kid after him as an act of forgiveness actually makes sense to me in terms of Harry's character, even if it still seems dismissive of what Snape did to Neville and Hermione.

Yeah, well, when they get to be main characters of a book series then they can decide who gets forgiven or not.
