I think a lot of that stuff does happen, but I also think a lot of good/interesting/funny things also happen. I almost feel like you have to be concentrating on the negativity to let it drown out the good experiences.

And I also have to say, this is the best place for some people to talk about the news IRL especially if their family is super conservative, and it's a good place to talk about that stuff with a big group of people. You can also be more honest and thoughtful than you can in, say, conversations with co-workers, typically. Like basically everything else in GC, you're free to scroll. (In general, complaining about stuff that shows up in GC is pretty dumb imo. You pick and choose which threads you want to participate in anyway.)

I will also add that, honestly, if this is not the place for you, it's OK to go find a place that you like better. Or go find a place and keep coming here. But I hope you don't view everything through the lens of just trying to pick out what's wrong with it - you'll be disappointed in a lot of communities and forums and websites that way (not to mention a lot of stuff in general). Might be worth thinking about.
