Re: What do you consider cyberstalking?

I was "followed around" the internet by someone for several years. They would constantly send me messages telling me how cruel it was that I didn't reply and that they were going to hurt themselves (even sending pictures of them self-harming (or with fake blood, idk)), they tried to get me to add them to my friendslist on lj and various other social media sites by making different accounts pretending to be different people. They tried to convince my friends to tell them where I live.

Something like that.

Holy shit I'm sorry that's terrible.

I would consider following someone like a particular user and constantly complaining about them or bugging them to a kind of stalking.

I mean some people are saying it has to be PMig someone or going beyond public comments but I don't' agree.

If you're following around a user whenever they post you're still following them around. And that's still kinda stalkery.

It sounds worse than it was, to be fair, because even though it really was years, after the initial spam it died down to once every few months (which led to me accidently accepting their friend requests sometime, which probably was the reason it took so long for them to give up)... so at some point it was more of a "oh look, the psycho is still alive" than genuine annoyance.

This sounds like what I would consider "cyberstalking". My sympathies that you had to put up with it.

Anything that leads to someone tracking down your RL location ends up super-creepy.
