Fandom things you feel guilty about

tw: rape, suicide

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
So a few years back, I was vaguely into this youtuber. Then I learned there had been some rumors that he had acted 'innapropiately' with one of his fans. No-one was too clear on what had happened, about whether it had been just some harmless but unwanted flirting (which would have been rather creepy in itself, as he was 40, his fans were teens, and he was married) or if it had gotten farther than that. The victim never dared come forward publicly, and I only learned about it because I was friends with someone she had told.

There wasn't anything I could do, so I sort of... let it go.

Then a few years later the guy committed suicide, which made it extra awkward to say anything about it.

But still... I feel guilty. I feel like I should have done something. Told people, at least.

this story sounds vaguely familiar... nor I wonder who it was...

Noncon, still I guess. I know it's a pretty common kink, but it's still weird to admit it.

Not OP

Yeah, I feel a bit dirty admitting I sometimes--if done well--I can be into non/dubcon.

I don't feel guilty about it. I do feel guilty about rape scenarios that really happened sometimes turning me on though.

Basically if I'm watching a TV show or movie that involves a sexy older villain and a younger, innocent woman, they're my ship no matter how problematic. Bonus points for dub con/non con.

Same, word for word, except I prefer the emotionally nauseating ambiguity of dub-con to non-con.

Off the top of my head, because I've been on an A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones fanfic binge:

plaything by Drbwho

awry also by Drbwho

The Petyr Baelish/Sansa Stark tag has a number of fics like this.

In the Teen Wolf fandom, it's the Peter Hale/Lydia Martin tag --

Eyes, Mouth, Teeth by quigonejinn

Six Times by quigonejinn

and a few others, but I have to leave for work now!

Since I'm an adult I feel guilty about how I ship younger characters. If I like fanart or read fanfic of them doing anything beyond a sweet chaste kiss on the lips, I can just hear everyone else calling me a pedo.

Two of my three current favorite ships are incest.

Mostly my fandom past. I was one of the crazy shippers in the Potter fandom. I'm still embarrassed at some of the things I posted.

I've gotten to the point where I feel no shame at my current likes.

Were you part of any of the crazy fandom wanks that came out of the HP fandom?

Oh and don't sweat it. I think many of us in that time went off the path a bit. ;)

I used to be totally into shota. That was years and years ago and before I was sexually active myself and I realized early on that it was a kind of externalized masochism but I still feel weird about it and I doubt I could ever go into politics with that sort of fandom history...

I once joined a fandom project where blank books were going to be sent fromfan to fan, ith each person adding a piece of work. The project failed because the main lead in it vanished, but I always feel a bit at fault because I failed to pass the hetro book onwards (mainly due to fears over the cost of international shipping).

I still have the mostly empty book, buried in my cupboard, still in the post-pack box it arrived in. My picture I was going to put in still hasn't been glued into the page.
