This is news?

Another day, another mass shooting in America

Eh, not so much news at this point as an opportunity for us to rant at our country's staggering ineptitude when it comes to actually doing something about this shit.

It's not ineptitude.

Congress won't do anything because any politician that tries to propose a bill is essentially committing political suicide. And it won't even accomplish anything -- they won't get enough votes in support. The NRA will absolutely DESTROY them all come next election cycle.

And passing local or state laws is pointless when you can just drive to another state and get a weapon so easily. Change has to happen on the federal level. But it won't. And there's nothing we can do about it. There are simply too many gun-crazed obsessives and they vote to make sure the government won't take away their guns or in any way restrict them.

Oh, yeah, I know all of that, and I completely agree we need to do something at the federal level.

But I do think the fact that there's so many roadblocks in the way, and the fact that there's enough stupid citizens out there who let their obsessiveness about guns rule their lives, does say "ineptitude" on some level. Our country does have a deeply fucked up attitude about this issue, though, that much is absolutely certain.

I first read that as, "so many rednecks in the way." Which is also true.

Ha. Yeah, that definitely fits, too.

I hope you know how stupid that question sounds.

Most countries have done it at some point, though.

I'm assuming anon's point is that it would actually be really hard to do in the US considering the political opposition.

(I think it's misplaced, though. I don't think "how hard can it be?" is a stupid question, but a legit expression of frustration.)

Just this year there's been over 350 shootings in America. If that doesn't prove it's an everyday thing...

Is that even counting your standard homicide?

My city has dozens every year and it's not even a huge city.

As I recall, that's instances where one person shot four or more people, potentially including himself or herself. I linked the count elsewhere in the thread.
