but still suit the canon world really well

That's what I try for! I wouldn't name one of my Dragon Age protagonists 'Ashley' or 'John', lol.

It helps that their names are never actually spoken out loud, since I don't think I'd be able to take anything seriously if they were.

Ooo, you should play Fallout 4. Fallout 4 does have a character that will read your player name, and they've recorded some pretty ridiculous ones. (Fuckface, for instance.) I wonder if that would work for you! (If nothing else, it would be entertaining.)

Oh god, I couldn't either. I don't even attempt to make hilarious looking characters, I want all my protagonists to look like cuties or super models.
