Were the sporkers especially mean and vicious or was this just a friend loyalty thing?

You don't have to agree with or think everything your friends do is perfection just as long as you aren't mean to them when you point it out.

Depending on the restraint and maturity of the sporkers, I find that they can make very good critics. I actually once requested for one of the sporkers in my fandom to look over one of my fics because while sarcastic they seemed to make very good points.

AYRT - I think it was a bit of both - I was sensitive since she was my friend (while also realizing good lord, they were right - and even she admitted they weren't very good later on). But they made a few assumptions about her personal character, which I didn't think was cool, and it was also obvious they thought all OCs were Mary Sues, pretty much. I think that made it unfair because they were never going to like it, you know?

Oh yeah. Well they sound like the bad kind of sporkers IMO.

Assuming things about the authors' character, that's pretty cruel.

Also on the OC bit, that just seems pretty pointless to me. It's like going into a movie of a genre you already don't like, and then downgrading it because they're that genre. You already know it has what you hate, so complaining that it's bad quality just for having it is just pretty bullshit.

The best person to judge an OC's quality should be IMO someone who's neutral to the idea of them, so their judgement won't be biased by the fact it's an OC to begin with.
