I have never been able to buy foods at these prices, like, ever. Bags of carrots are more expensive than that, and if you're only going to buy three, you're probably buying from like, an organic vendor where the prices are way high.

Though, I'm seeing where the difference is; you're assuming you've already bought the bags of veggies, and you're just portioning out the amount you're using? Like, one bag = $1.20 with nine carrots, so technically for the platter, you're only using $0.40 of carrot. On my end, I live alone, so buying a whole bag of carrot isn't really economical, unless I'm using them for a party or something, in which case I'd have to buy the whole bag, and it wouldn't matter how much the party platter technically cost, I still spent money on the whole bag of carrots.

Well, see the thing is I use all of those things in my regular cooking. Even if I were to buy a specific vegetable just for a platter, I would just be using the rest up myself anyway. :)

Wait. Wait. Don't they sell carrots like... by the carrot where you live?! You actually have to buy a whole bag??! D:

What is this madness?!

That's fair. Goodness knows I would eat the fuck out of those peppers, though I'm still confused about where you're buying them so cheaply. :( Red peppers are my favorite thing, and I eat them like apples. (Which naturally turned bad for me last time when I bit into one and found the mold after the fact. >_>)

I mean, you can buy carrots by the carrot, if you're buying the expensive gourmet organic ones? But then the price/carrot is too expensive for me, you know? It adds up, even when I wish it didn't. :(

I get regular and imported carrots (the fist sized Asian variety) as well as new carrots (with the tops) at my grocery store. The normal kind are usually on for around $0.79/lb, or ~$0.15/carrot which is significantly cheaper than the bagged variety if you're looking to only purchase a few. The imported Asian ones can go as low as $0.69/lb on sale and those are usually the kind I buy since I only need to get 2-3 of them and it's the same as getting 4-6 normal carrots.

The kinds of bell peppers we have are the pricy organic ones and he sweet bagged kinds and those can run you around $4-5 a bag for 3-5 peppers. However, the ones I get are $2.49/lb which works out to around $0.70-0.80 for one medium bell pepper.

...I now wish I could send you some peppers because there's clearly some produce witchcraft going on.

I did just check, and Walmart (only place with their price online, but generally one of the cheaper places if you're not buying in bulk) has them for $0.86/lb, but I feel icky knowing that now because I hate Walmart. :I I have never seen the Asian variety, though. Peppers are between $1.50~$1.99/pepper, though I don't like the green ones, which probably is messing with the price.

I'm 99.9% sure it's because I'm in a college town, so they jack up the prices, but that might be my bitter student ass talking.

I wish. I like bell peppers. Except when they're moldy. :(

Oh don't worry, I'll be over here joining in your hatred of Wal Mart and being bitter about living in a University town lol.

The worst part is that it's not even a proper goddamn Walmart! It's just a walmart supermarket, which sounds weird to complain about given that I do hate walmart, but as much as I hate it, I don't have a lot of money, and Walmart is cheap, and there have been many times where I've had to put off buying something Important until I could go back to my hometown and go to the walmart there or get my Mum to buy it, because everything around here is so expensive. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻.

I count myself pretty fortunate in that I have a local supermarket chain with pretty ridiculously low prices that I can shop at without having to resort to abandoning my morals re: megacorporations.

Otherwise I'm pretty sure I would have never made it through my degree lol.

I do have a decent supermarket here, but it's specialty is bulk items (not like, a costco or a sams club or like that, but bulk items nonetheless).

I meant, less perishable Important Things, like, bras, socks, clothing, stuff like that. Unfortunately, Walmart is the only place I have found that has bras in both (a) my size and (b) price range. There is a nice store in my hometown that sells them, but they run in the $40~$50 range which is a bit much for me.

That's fair. Underwear buying is a giant chore, and moreso for women with the whole having to get decent fitting bras thing. I can see it.
