I'm so sorry.

The thing is... I think there's people who find comfort in visiting stories and movies that relate to an experience they've had. So they can't understand not wanting to just because you went through it.

(For instance, that's why cancer storylines are so popular. Most people know someone who's been affected by it directly or indirectly, so they can relate, and if it's affected them directly, they want to read/watch all about it as a source of comfort. And yes, there is a HUGE difference between that and triggering material,* but they may not respect the difference.)

*Although there's plenty of people who are sick of everything being cancer cancer cancer, too. Like me.

SA - NOT excusing them, btw. They're still being petty assholes for not understanding why it's painful for you.

Yeah, no, I get that some people are comforted by seeing stories they can relate to, showing them they aren't alone, etc, and I'm happy the show exists so those people can see it. I'm just very much not one of those people, and I've explained that to them. It's just like, pushing it on people whose mental health can't handle it is really counterproductive.
