Same. Most the other changes were pretty bad, but their friendship was one of the very best things about the films for me. While I always found the ending sad, it was nowhere near as heart-wrenching as the films ending; that relationship added another layer of tragedy to it because you kind of felt like there was something unfinished between them. (Or at least I did, especially with how relieved Thorin was that Bilbo forgave him. They were both so affectionate and loving as well...something that just wasn't as present in the book. In the EE Richard makes a comment about 'things left unsaid' and that just made it worse.)

Exactly. Most of the other changes didn't work (aside from additions that were actually sort of in the expanded material like the Dol Goldur stuff which I mostly loved). But their friendship added an extra layer of emotion to the movies that I loved.
