Which has actually lead to a lot of the drama in the fandom. And just isn't how I see the relationship at all to the point that when people call the relationship abusive it feels wrong to me.
What? You say in the beginning that the relationship is abusive but that it can be seen as abusive with a twisted kind of love. Abusive but twisted is fine, but how do you go from that to "calling it abusive feels wrong"? If it's abusive, it is abusive. I don't care if you like abusive relationships, but saying they aren't bothers me. It's like all of the people who want Hannibal and Will to have a "normal" relationship. (Which is what your statement reminded me of.) It isn't normal. Hannibal abused Will, gaslighted him and more. If someone enjoys that relationship dynamic, go for it. If someone turns that into fluff, however, it disturbs me.

The relationship as this particular author interprets it is abusive. I don't interpret it that way. In the beginning I interpreted her fics to be abusive but with some sort of twisted love. I don't interpret canon that way.

There isn't actually that much canon to work with in terms of the relationship. This particular author added the abuse. None of those scenes were in canon. It could be interpreted that way because the characters are both villains and character A is the main villain of the canon.

But the way I interpret the relationship, based on the few canon scenes we have, is that while both the characters are villains and do horrible things, with each other they are different. Both are equally valid interpretations of canon.

Ah, okay. That's different. I thought that the abusive part was canon, and the author added the twisted love part, which you liked. I can't comment on the actual canon, but that line just bothered me, given what I've seen in the Hannibal fandom. Now I can understand where you are coming from.

Oh, no, I totally agree with you on the Hannibal fandom. There is no way to make Hannibal/Will romantic and be anywhere close to the actual canon relationship. FYI, the ship is Melkor/Sauron from Tolkien. Which, can be read in any number of ways given how little canon we have on their relationship.
