I had a similar thought watching Days of Our Lives in the last few weeks. In the writers' defense, the actor did have other plans, and they did try to make the last few days meaningful, but it was still so damn frustrating considering the preceding events.

I feel like character death is like everything else in that it depends on the particular situation; it can be both stirring and emotionally satisfying (even when sad!), but it can also feel shallow and sketchy. It all depends on the execution.

I kind of get where you're coming from because character death is certainly one of the more popular 'go-tos' for an emotional response, but it's also one of those things that isn't going anywhere. All I do at this point is hope that when it happens, it makes sense for the character/universe.

I hate anytime a character is killed off for a cheap tragedy. There are times where character death can work with the story, but there are also times they are just using the death as manipulative ploy.

Like 90% of the deaths in Deathly Hallows, right?
