Re: Doctor Who Spoilers In This One

Well it was fascinating from a certain point of view. Tonight's finale was certainly concept and far more daring than anything I thought Moffat was capable of. It was a Doctorless episode, can you believe it, and shot in docudrama style. It actually harks back to the RTD finales because we are once again dealing with the Oncoming Storm.

Okay, plotwise a super villain with a weather machine and maybe a mind control machine is attacking the British isles and we are documenting the increasing damage. Villages washed away, people left homeless, newscasters beginning to break down in tears, rail lines simply washed away. Seriously, someone give that Irish actress an award, the way she handled her breakdown, standing in the path of the storm as huddled masses scurried behind her, and she had to comment on the Irish boys hurling themselves (mind controlled?) into the wave fronts. That acting was gold level.

From there it was just a steady beat of it getting worse, and windier, and wetter, and torrents growing and worse and worse to increase the tension; and no Doctor in sight. That was a brilliant piece of disaster porn. Pure entertainment that I didn't think the BBC or Moffat was capable of. How it fits into the wider arc is left unstated and I guess we have to wait until Christmas to find out what happens now. And I was worried it was going to be Moffat pounding on the same old hackneyed themes, and trying to shove his old 1980s fanwank into canon. Never have I been so grateful to be proven wrong.

Is it possible, Nonny, that you might have been watching the BBC News Channel instead of BBC1 there?
