except that it feeds into the rotten core of our cultural problems in the treatment of women: You are ONLY allowed to like women if the're hot. Sure, one person who say's "I only like her because she's hot" is a pig but otherwise not really a problem, but we don't have that. we have a chorus of millions of voices chanting that as the background music to ever film, tv show and real life interaction women face. I know you know this, why are you fighting me here?

There is a difference between criticizing society's judgment of women based only on their looks and criticizing an individual person for finding a character hot. I will a thousand percent agree with the former. But I'm not going to do the latter because people are allowed to have sexuality and find things hot.

And especially I'm not going to judge because I'm the same way. Would Thor be my favorite Avenger if he wasn't hot? Not a chance. Would Willow be one of my favorite Buffy characters if I didn't find her attractive? No, actually I didn't even like her that much until I started being attracted to her.

What I won't do is say that media should cater to my attraction and only give me characters I find hot. That's wrong. That's the problem: men (and women) saying that because they find these women hot there should only ever be hot women on their screen. But the actual attraction is not wrong.

What do you think society is made up of? It's not some fucking creature spawned out of some hell dimension. It is made up of millions of individual people doing the same shit. How do you envision changing society without correcting the people doing the behaviours? I know I'm coming across as angry tonight, but I really do want to know.

Again, I think the problem is people thinking the media should only put attractive people on screen, not actually being attracted.

Do you think everyone is suddenly going to become asexual or blind? Sexual attraction is a thing for people of all genders.

And you know what, a big problem in society is also telling girls they aren't visual and don't have a sexuality except as it relates to men and being hot for men. So I'm going to be proud of my sexuality and not hide the fact that I like visuals and find some characters of both genders hot.

I see where you're coming from. I do NOT agree, oh my god no. but I understand your viewpoint and I honestly respect you for how you present on-line so I'm happy to agree to differ with you here.

So if guys can't sexualize women, and girls also can't sexualize women... what if any role is there for sexy women in media? Does everybody need to wear baggy robes now?

Sexy women in media should all be portrayed as asexual neuroscientists. It'll be empowering and it won't focus on their physical attributes!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-05 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
They should be nuns, always properly covered and non-sexually available!

She's hot. He's hot. Everyone is hot.

Those are my reasons for seeing some of the shittiest movies, but if it has Karl Urban or Hugh Jackman in it, and especially if they show off skin, I'm there.

I'm a woman here and I like what I like. And some angry little SJW Troll like you will not change my view on that. Besides, you most likely do the same damn thing, which makes you a hypocrite. And if you deny it, you will only reinforce my belief that you are lying and troll.

I have watched too many movies for Karl Urban's face.

That demon movie. SO BAD, but that scene where he like...licks up that stuff (drugs, sugar, whatever it was), holy CRAP was that hot. Dayum!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-12-06 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Man. Now I wanna watch some Karl Urban movies. Maybe Dredd again. No face, but you see his butt in leather pants constantly. I've yet to see The Loft and I guess this happens.

Yes. That is what I am going to watch.

edit: IT'S ON NETFLIX! HUZZAH!

She's hot. He's hot. Everyone is hot.

Okay, now I have that Buster Poindexter song in my head, thanks :p.

You're welcome on accident? ^^;;;

This is me with Chris Hemsworth. I've seen everything he's been in. Though I'm debating Heart of the Sea because I'm not sure I want to see him emaciated. But I saw the crappy Red Dawn remake just so I could oogle him.

Hahaha, oh, believe me, it's really weird when I see a Hugh Jackman movie and it's like...right after I see a film of him where he's rather Wolvie!buff and then he's very thin in comparison. It's a bit of a shock, though I can't remember a film where he's emaciated...hmm. But I still find him very attractive even when's not that buff.

He's also the only guy I LIKE with that kind of buff on. Every other male celebrity or non-celebrity always looks so weird and bad to me if they are that buff or even more so, but Hugh Jackman? Nope, I'd still climb him like a tree if I were ever given that miracle chance.

Jackman's Wolverine is a bit too much muscle for my taste (and also way too much body hair). I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't find him hot in that role. Jackman normally is pretty nice, though I wouldn't call him a favorite.

This person is hilarious. I probably watch half my shows and movies because somebody I find hot is in it. Like, the only reason I watched 300 was because of Michael Fassbender running around in a loincloth.

And Salma Hayek was the only reason I watched From Dusk Til Dawn.

I mean...damn.

I need the number of her hairstylist, stat. Dang.

She's very beautiful.

That scene was the hottest I've ever found a woman. Like...damn. The only thing that ruins it is Quentin Tarantino's face.

For someone who is very straight, I will admit, that was a VERY hot, sexy scene. Liek whoa. And yeah, QT's face is rather...unfortunate in that scene. >_>

My ideal body, damn. Gotta hit the gym.
