Re: Original Final Fantasy VII is now available for PS4

sa yet again, hijacking this thread (sorry about that OP!)

I've just played through the first bombing mission and this version has added a couple of features.

One of them is being able to speed everything up by pressing L3, so everything but FMVs and the music runs at 3x speed, which can be useful if you've played the game before and/or if you want to grind.

A second feature is getting HP, MP and the limit break bar filled up instantly by pushing R3 I think it was (and keep getting refilled until you press R3 again), which again makes it easier to grind and getting new limit breaks (I got Cross slash before riding the elevator down with Barret and Jessie).

You can also get no encounters by pressing R3 and L3 I think it was.

This combined got me in and out of the reactor so quick. idk if I will use them a lot, especially the second one, but figured I could tell you guys in case anyone considered buying the game. Might be some other little things too.

That's kind of nice. I heard it was just a direct port of the Steam release, which was a direct port of the 1998 PC version plus achievements. I can see the desire to "speed things up" a little, by modern standards the battle system is a bit slow.

ayrt

I think it seems really great so far, though I only tried out that first mission real quick before going back to studying. (So speeding up worked out great in that aspect!) The models also look great and you move using the analog sticks rather than directional buttons, which fits me just fine. Also auto-running! (Though they kept the "Press X to run" text, so that was a bit out of place!) X is also now the confirmation button, so it really seemed to be moderned up in those aspects at least!

I wonder if they kept the typos and other weird language things. I managed to beat the first boss using limit breaks before getting the "Attack while its tail is up" text so I didn't get to see if they had kept that in as well. I also wonder whether it is Aerith or Aeris.

Getting excited to play some more after exams at least, though it'll have to wait a couple of weeks.

Do let me know if it's Aerith, but if it's just a port, then she should definitely be Aeris. They've kept the same original PC translation for all the ports so far, so the only differences from the original Playstation release should be a few adjustments here or there that they did in 1998. (pretty sure Aeris's "these guy are sick" was fixed then.)

Also, I just checked and the PS4 port has the same official achievements as the Steam one, which includes an achievement for attaining Great Gospel, which is officially listed as "Aeris's Final Limit Break". If she's Aeris in the achievement, she's probably Aeris in the game.

wait, so this thing has a ridiculously broken cheat mode built in with a button push?

that's the fucking lamest thing I've ever heard!

It's not like the game forces you to use it. I assume it's there for people who basically want to speedrun the story. Or trophy hunters considering one of them is getting all limit breaks, including all of Aerith's, iIrc, though that certainly loses the challenge aspect of that trophy!

It shouldn't exist at all! People should play the game with some actual challange involved! I'm not a "casuals get out" guy but games should have the real possibility of losing!

Nayrt
I kind of agree. It should be new game+ or something instead of something easily available from the beginning. Speeding up on the other hand seems fine.

It'd be a godsend for me tbh. My hands aren't what they used to be and this means I could share it with my SO. :c
