Re: Omegaverse!you

Betas are usually "normal". Most often they are what RL is. I vaguely recall a J2 werewolf fic I once read which may have implied Alpha/Beta pairs are incompatible for breeding. The aforementioned fic series (a Dragon Age story) that had alpha females with dick however did have them compatible.
Not all fics bother with betas though.
Omegas are on the other end to Alphas, having heat cycles Alphas react to, male omegas likely having self-lubricating anuses, and can get pregnant.
The usual goal in A/B/O fic is to cast one half of the feature pairing as an Alpha, the other as an omega, and get them into heat-induced buttsex, usually resulting in pregnancy.
Women can be implied as being omegas, but because this is a set-up very associated with slash, often most female characters get shoved aside. The DA fic I mentioned twice before actually had at least a couple of side pairings with female omegas, and implied that Isabela was a female Alpha.
Re: Omegaverse!you
(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 09:33 am (UTC)(link)I've read a few dozen Omegaverse fics, and for the most part, in the fics I've read Alpha women have cocks and can't become pregnant, while Omega men have ovaries and uteri, but don't have vaginas. Though I have read a few fics where Omega men do have vaginas (while also still having anuses, naturally).
And yes, Alphas are generally considered dominant and more physically imposing, while Omegas are considered more passive, emotional, and physically slight. It's worth noting, however, that most Omegaverse fics (the ones I've read) go part of the way to bucking those stereotypes, at least where the central OTP are concerned. The Omega is rarely characterized as a sexual Dom or a sexual top, but they are often shown to be highly capable and more emotionally stable than their Alpha partner. Meanwhile, the Alpha tends to retain a dominant streak in the bedroom, but is often shown as not wanting to be the kind of Alpha people think of when they think of Alphas. Instead they want to be considerate, in control of their impulses, and respectful of their partner.
Not all Omegaverse fics go that far in bucking the preset gender roles. A few go much farther still, while others make only the barest pretense towards denying the gender essentialism of their universe, and a few more embrace it that gender essentialism whole-heartedly.
Finally, Betas. AKA, people like us. Occasionally the main ship will have one of the characters as a beta, but for the most part Betas tend to be treated as filler. They're usually not looked down on in any overt way, and are sometimes regarded as lucky for their relatively trouble-free sexual biology. But there does tend to be a sense that in the Omegaverse, Betas are considered kind of boring.
