Rin in season 1 was pretty jerkish.

There was really no good reason he should have pushed Nagisa, Makoto, and Haru away so much. He was the one that went to Australia then the first thing he does when he comes back is act antagonistic towards them for no good reason and then gets so frustrated when he sees them form a team with Rei.

Rin is season 2 is so much more mature and a better friend.

Well, 'no good reason' is kind of tricky territory to argue when it comes to depressed people. Those suffering from insecurity and emotional turmoils push loved ones away. Unhealthy? Unpleasant? Of course, but it makes sense, and that's just the way his story arc was written, anon. He didn't go home, he didn't contact his sister, and there were narrative reasons for it.
