Crack is amazing. lol @ that taken out of context.

And one of the few things I like about Tumblr is the silly cracky images and comment conversations that exist - though I usually see them posted on other sites.

Wouldn't say 40%, but I can appreciate good crack as much as the next person. Hannibal fandom has some amazing crack. (So did SGA!)

The Hannibal fandom does have amazing crack. Swiggity Swag the Nightmare Stag, the it's probably people memes, the fanvids, etc.

Between that and the in-depth discussions of the show/source material I was so spoiled.

SGA was great too. Probably my most revisited older fandom when it comes to crackfic.

The Adventures of Rodney McKay's Magical Healing Cock is a classic.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a fandom with better crack then Hannibal's, which is pretty impressive considering how dark and disturbing the source material. (Though the show is morbidly hilarious at times, so it's a surprisingly adept pairing.)

I've been obsessing over Hannibal for months now and it's been the most fun I've had in fandom in quite some time! All the meta/discussion is incredible, but it makes perfect sense that there's so much of it given how layered everything about the show is.

SGA is the fandom I always think of first when it comes to crackfic.

I feel like villain fandoms must have the best crack. Because the Melkor/Sauron side of the Silmarillion fandom has amazing crack too.

I think it's because villains are often so outrageous that putting them in really odd situations or running with bizarre, or morbid humor just feels natural.

Like with Hannibal...he eats people, has a murder basement, is pretentious as fuck and draws fanart of his friends as classical paintings. He's crazy and ridiculous already so adding a bit more of that can't hurt.

I'm not sure how you're even defining crack. I think of crack as being "utterly bizarre combinations of circumstances/characters/etc.", and I rather enjoy that sort if the creator puts some thought and effort into it.

Mmm, I like some cracky stuff, but I wouldn't be able to do nearly half of fandom stuff just based on crack. I need canon hints here and there.

Crack is awesome!

The only time crack gets bad is when it does the fandom version of that thing that happens when a computer translates an english phrase into a different language and then translates that translation back into english, resulting in utter insanity.

i.e., when someone starts writing genuinely serious interpretations and analyses of a ship/premise/characterization/theory that is 100% crack and makes absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever in canon regardless of how fun it is in crack fandom, without any sense of awareness that what they are saying is utter nonsense based on things that have no basis in canon and were never meant to have any basis in canon.

Like, this person doesn't seem to notice that the ship that he's shipping is PURE UNADULTERATED CRACK WITH NO BASIS IN CANON WHATSOEVER AND COMES FROM A RUNNING JOKE IN THE ABRIDGED SERIES.

If it was a joke, if they made this into a parody comic that was obviously tongue-in-cheek, it would be awesome. But the fact that they are serious and so far down the rabbit hole they have no idea how nonsensical the words they're typing are just takes all the fun out of the crack for me.
