I couldn't take AZ seriously after it was revealed that he's 3000 years old and 9ft tall. That's just ridiculous. Immortality doesn't work that way!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The height, I heard, was based on a legend that the royal line of France is descended from giants. But then Masuda tried to act like the height and immortality were related and...

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. It's not like giants have known health complications or anything...

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT'S the thing that get's your realism button going in pokemon?

Ehhhh. It's Pokemon. If I'm taking the story seriously, I've already left my suspension of disbelief at the door.

Immortality doesn't work in any way though. :^P

XY's plot was a mess. I couldn't sum it up if I tried.

Hipsters wanted to destroy the world.

Class warfare takes on a whole new meaning.

(Although I feel like this isn't entirely correct since many of the Flare agents talk about having scrounged for the money. 5 million is a lot, but in dollars it's about 50k, which is still a lot but not HOLY SHIT a lot.)

I just found AZ way super petty, pathetic, and in a way, pretty creepy. Think about it, he spends 3000 years whining about his Floette hating him, and barely even mentions that he murdered countless Pokemon and Trainers. He doesn't even connect that Floette has a damn good reason to hate him, or that any number of those condemned Pokemon may have been as innocent as she was (or wasn't; she was a soldier, after all). He's got zero remorse for any of that massacre.

Instead, AZ is portrayed as a sympathy figure, and for a villain we got Lysandre whom I felt was a cheap Cyrus clone. "Overpopulation is a strain on humanity, let's murder everyone" is the new "Feels are a strain on humanity, let's murder everyone", apparently.

Lysandre whom I felt was a cheap Cyrus clone

Ok, but let's be honest: all the Pokemon villains are partial clones of one another.

I saw someone describe the Flare plot as "Galactic's cutting room floor" and that sounds about right. Although I found them to be more interesting than Flare. Lysandre's plan would have fallen apart in about five minutes since he did no screening as to who would survive, and most of the agents were as greedy as the people he was trying to destroy.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
That was the point, though. It was brilliant. He basically tricked them all and gathered them in one spot so they'd be easy to kill.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Unless he had planned from the beginning to die with them, that didn't seem to be his plan at all. Especially since he seemed to regard the entire world with the same scorn EXCEPT his agents. Unlike Cyrus, who saw even his own followers as useless idiots (which they are) and praised his enemies for their view of the "big picture".

Flare's recruitment process seems based on church indulgences, buying your way into Heaven.

I didn't really feel strongly about AZ one way or another, as far as whether he was sympathetic. I like his story though. I think I was more interested in what his character represented emotionally and symbolically than the guy himself?

Though I admit I didn't give it much thought. Pokemon stories are nice, but I mostly play the games for the scenery, music, and the actual Pokemon.

Yeah I tend to forget Pokemon games even have plots since I spend so much time on completing the pokedex after the main game is over.

I don't even really care about the Pokedex. I just like to pick six Pokemon and then get really involved into making a team out of them. Sometimes I breed them, sometimes I just go through the game and catch them, but I almost always plan the team out ahead of time.

Or I just do a Nuzlocke. Those are fun too. :D

I'm too cautious for Nuzlocke to really add much to the game. I think I've lost two pokemon in all the times I've tried it and its variants, so it's not much of a challenge. I love Wonderlockes though. I get so excited when it's time to find out what my next pokemon will be.

I was having a ton of fun with some A:tLA challenges too. I kept giving them the best names I could think of. I spend literally hours trying to find a male hoppip because I thought the grass/flying combo would be the best I could get for a pokemon to name Aang (I was doing it as Water Tribe), but I kept only getting female ones. And I was so proud of naming my chinchou Iroh because it's water/electric and he learned to redirect lightning by studying waterbenders. And of course Sokka was my normal pokemon with all the useful HMs.

[personal profile] thezmage 2015-12-08 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'd have probably gone with Hawlucha for Aang. Guy was nimble as hell

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
You can sympathize and still condemn his actions, JSYK.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I couldn't do either. I found nothing to feel bad for him for. Everything that happened, he deserved. And Floette should never have forgiven him either.
