I also hate that they have CARS. In the future where they explicitly don't have that kind of thing - Kirk didn't know about cars in Star Trek before. It was an explicit point!

The car thing is handwavable. It doesn't seem unreasonable that Earth would still have some kind of ground transportation system that uses roads, and the car is Kirk's stepfather's prized antique and a one-off. Kirk wouldn't have been living with his stepfather if the divergent timeline hadn't been created.
