OMG. FUCK. YES. ISAWTC.

I tried doing this too. I tried convincing myself that maybe it was all for the best, that Harry needed Ginny and that it really isn't so bad. BUT I JUST DON'T GET THE APPEAL. I mean, Ron/Hermione was FINE, because you actually saw it coming, with the whole love/hate relationship that was apparent in pretty much ALL the books. BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN, GINNY BECOMES THIS VIXEN THAT HARRY CAN'T TAKE HIS EYES OFF? When he's been keeping his eyes off her for FIVE YEARS?! THAT'S WHAT ANGERS ME MOST, is that she ALL OF A SUDDEN becomes this IMPORTANT CHARACTER that we haven't even SEEN much of in any of the past books.

But, this is a Harry/Ginny rant, not a Ginny rant. SO I WILL SAY THIS. For more than 8 YEARS (counting from the release of Sorcerer's Stone to the release of HBP), I was led to believe that all Harry saw in Ginny was a friend. In fact, his BEST FRIEND'S SISTER. AND SO, IN THE LAST TWO BOOKS OF THE SERIES, YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT HARRY SPONTANEOUSLY FINDS GINNY ATTRACTIVE? AND THAT HE'S DESPERATELY IN LOVE WITH HER? Uhh. NO. One word, people: D-E-V-E-L-O-P-M-E-N-T. That is how all *GOOD* relationships start. I'll say it once, I'll say it again: THERE REALLY IS NO APPEAL. ):

Is it really so strange to think a sixteen year old boy will suddenly find his best friend's sister hot? They did get along, specially when Ginny stopped flailing whenever Harry was around.

In general, no. In the way that it happened, a bit. I was personally more bothered by the fact that other people found her incredibly hot, such as Draco, and the Slytherins wanting her and so on and so forth, and then Harry walks into a closet and sees her kissing another boy and only then does he noticed, oh shit son, she's pretty fine. That, to me, just seemed a bit too... random, I guess? He hadn't shown real interest in her before that, despite the fact that plenty of other people clearly did, and the manner in which his feelings for her began just seemed so... out of place.
I don't know. It just didn't flow well for me.

I know what you mean. It did have like, no build-up from Harry's part, and I get how that bothers a lot of people. It's simply that I don't mind it, I find it realistic. Or something. I don't think that H/G is a masterpiece or the best romance ever written, I just like it and I liked it in the books as well.

They get along, yes, but as FRIENDS. A purely platonic relationship that was developed through admiration, NOT attraction. And besides, you'd think Harry didn't consider Ginny as his OWN sister, judging by the relationship between Ron and Harry. I'd be disturbed if my best friend started thinking my little brother was hot; she's practically family.

Sure, that's why they spent most of their time snogging in dark corridors? I don't get it. Is it purely platonic or just physical? I've heard both arguments in just this post :/

It's not rare that someone would consider someone else as their family and one day they'd see them with different eyes. It happens. A lot. Just like it happens with best friends. It's not impossible, it's not an odd concept, it's not 'creepy'. Harry does feel guilty and does seem bothered by the fact that it's Ron's sister that he finds himself suddenly attracted to.

Which she did only in an attempt to get Harry to notice her, which is incredibly healthy. Lovely relationship - Ginny gets complete personality transplant and is total doormat (like how Harry frowns at her in DH and she obeys), Harry's deepest feelings are that she's hot and agrees with him a lot.

If she'd just done it in an attempt for Harry to notice her, she would've made her dating way more public. We find out she has a boyfriend because Ron and Hermione comment on it, not because Ginny flounces around waving her boyfriends in front of Harry. That is an important detail and for me it shows she really WAS trying to get over him. It didn't work? Well, a lot of relationships don't. And she didn't dump Dean or Michael because she was hung up on Harry, she had different reasons for ditching them both.

If Harry's deepest feelings were that she's hot and agrees with him, then the Spiderman! scene from HBP wouldn't have happened.

Not the OP but how on earth did you get misogyny from that comment? S/he didn't say a woman couldn't have an important role, s/he said that the character development was poor.
