Okay, wow. I apologize for trying to have a conversation.

Your opening comment did not seem like it was prompting any discussion and was actually kind of insulting, implying that not hating a completely fictional character made me weird or something. I don't hate any characters. I think hating characters is lame.

But if you want an actual discussion here you go:

I find people who try to apply real-world morality to fictional characters in a fictional setting really kind of dim, because there is no way to do it without being a hypocrite. I am able to seperate reality from fiction long enough to enjoy a good villain. I like Trinity despite the fact that they are psychotic, violent, civilian-slaughtering terrorists (or at least complacent in these actions, like Johann is). I like Ali al-Saachez although he is pretty much the biggest bastard of the series and has done countless horrible things, etc etc etc. I like the Meisters despite the fact that they're extremely hypocritical in their actions and philosophies. I like Patrick even though he's an asshole. I like Louise even though she's whiny. If I applied things in the real world that I hate to fictional characters, I would hate everyone.

I think saying something like "Nena is a horrible person because she blew up a bunch of innocent people for no reason and laughed about it" and then turning around and saying H/Allelujah's actions are excusable because he feels bad about it and has a conscious underneath the killing is kind of... I don't know. Bad logic? Allelujah killed hundreds of children that actually weren't immediate threats--it is possible that they would grow up to be threats, of course, but there was no immediate danger. Basically, they were kids who had yet to do anything and they went 'splodey. I would not excuse a person in real life who does this sort of thing, because it is horrendous no matter how bad a person feels about it after. I mean, imagine laying out the bare facts for someone who has no idea what Gundam 00 even is, and they'll probably say "damn, that was evil." It pretty much was. However, I can seperate real-world rules from actions that make sense in the context of a story (from that, we gained Allelujah character development and it was one of the most powerful moments in the series so far). I can do the same with Nena, since I consider their actions to be on the same level (and we got a nice, poignant moment with Louise and Saji in the aftermath of her batshit insanity, too).

Trinity, and Nena in particular, is set up to be the anti-Meister. They are meant to make you think about that slippery slope that comes with Celestial Being's philosophy. CB kills people. Trinity kills people. There are differences in why they are killing people, but they are both still killing people. CB is allegedly killing people (soldiers, yeah, but soldiers are people and have families and loved ones and tons of people who are affected by their deaths) for the good of the world, but, you know, who gets to decide what's for the good of the world? The people with the money and the powerful weapons to back them up, natch. And definitions of what's good for the world can change on a whim, especially when people get a bit power-crazy, which is what happened to Trinity (if this were Death Note, they'd be Light). They're simply a far-gone reflection of what the Meisters are. That's the entire point.

And see, here's the thing. I can like characters and yet see how they could be disliked by most people. I can dislike characters and see how they could be liked by most people. Saying something like "how can you NOT hate her?" is stupid (as is "how can you NOT like her?"), because opinions are opinions, and championing yours as the right one is the biggest way to get me to roll my eyes. I said Nena was awesome because I like the crazy ones who are crazy without needing a tragic backstory to "excuse" them of their wrongdoings. And I didn't attempt to engage you in discussion, because of my aforementioned reaction to your statement.
