I don't think so. I'm an artist who very much puts my art up to be enjoyed by others. If someone uses it it's cause they're ENJOYING it, and the only thing that gets my panties in a bunch is if they say THEY actually drew it. I'd prefer credit, but really, not my characters, it's up there for fandom to enjoy.

Why would I get all pissy bitch over someone LIKING my art? It doesn't hurt me in the slightest if it's not credited. I lose what? 5 dev art hits from the few people who liked it enough to check the credit, follow it to the icon maker, and then follow THAT to my DA? I probably get more hits off stuff being posted to 4chan then not. And shit, it's even worse for the Japanese artist to have their panties in a twist, since if it wasn't for the icon the art probably would rarely be seen ANYWAY. If I wanted to make art for myself, I wouldn't upload it.

Then again, I'm not the best person to argue the "You credit the icon makers" argument as I credit it as advertisement for credit makers I like more then anything. If you want mt to credit you should credit everyone who was involved in getting that picture to you, since you're just the last step in getting it to me, and I've NEVER seen an icon maker who does that. They may exist but I never have. And it's totally a possible thing to do in this day and age, particularly with actor icons. I've never seen anyone credit, for example, the photographer of a particular editorial in Vogue. Is that photographer not an artist worthy of credit? I'm gonna stop cause this is looong and probably more then you were asking for XD
