Have you ever watched the show Emergency? It's an old show from the 70s and it airs on MeTV from 4-6 every day where I live. It's about the firefighters and doctors, but I think they're also paramedics. My brother (who is a firefighter) loves it because there's no personal stories to it, it's just about the rescues and then the hospital.

Emergency! Is about paramedics, specifically LA County firefighters John Gage and Roy DeSoto. The show was developed by Jack Webb partly as 'edutainment' to promote the paramedic program which was new to California.

Thanks for the history! it's background noise during dinner for me, but it's neat to learn that's how the show was developed and promoted. My brother will talk about specific techniques and how they've changed or what's not used anymore.

Jack Webb was such a booster for Los Angeles both the city and county. He developed Adam 12 for the same reason, to promote the police department. Dragnet followed detectives, Adam 12 was about beat cops. It's interesting to watch the evolution of different policing practices over the course of the series. He also did a shortlived series about the DA's office and spun a pilot that didn't get picked up about animal control.

I think Emergency did a crossover with Adam 12, my parents talk about Adam 12 all the time, but Emergency is one of those shows that just happens to be on when we're all home, so we sit around and watch it together.

They did. They also did an episode where Squad 51 was glued to the set watching Adam 12 and got a callout at the most exciting part, so they kept trying to find out what happened by various means.

DA--also, the big set piece rescues were used as training film for fire departments for years after, the research was that meticulous. But stillm seventies cheese, too. I love this show.

I love that show. Like Dragnet, it manages to be both bland and compelling at the same time. Such fascinating juxtaposition.

That's pretty much how I see the show. I can't stop watching but then when I look away I try to remember why I was watching in the first place. We watch it during dinner in my house so it's background noise to me.

I watch to play spot the character actor and So Cal location. It's such a blast from the past.

I liked Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as "Man Stuck in Car."

I *loved* Emergency! when i was a kid. I wanted to be a paramedic so bad! It was super cool.

I have some recs.

There's Sirens (USA) - it was pretty dumb. I don't know about the British property they adapted it from though. Rescue 77, if you can find it, was pretty dumb, but I liked it (it had baby Christian Kane in it). Third Watch was pretty good and had a significant portion devoted to EMTs (it kind of revolved equally between police, firefighters, and EMTs). There was Saved, which I don't remember much about, but it didn't last long.

Was just coming here to rec Third Watch!

Yes, Third Watch is excellent. :)

I tried to watch Sirens because I heard it had a lot of the same cast as Rescue Me, but it turned out to be rather boring. I didn't make it past the first episode.

I checked this thread just to be sure someone had done it. Such a good show.

Sirens (UK) is actually really, really good and really, really hilarious, and I'm sad it was canceled so soon.

Have you watched Chicago Med?
