I think most people are saying this? Most of the "friendship" is implied offscreen with them working together at the beginning of Age of Ultron. Otherwise, Steve and Tony mostly fight (in both Avengers they did).

Yeah. The only place their relationship actually worked in both movies was the battlefield. Otherwise, while they might have been friendly, they weren't close, and they grated on each others nerves a lot.

I dunno - seemed to me, by the end of Avengers, they were mutually respecting each other and probably feeling friendly. Then in AoU, Steve was all hanging out with Tony (and everyone else), and it was clear to me at least that that wasn't a weird or 'one off' type of situation....

I kind of like that it's not spelled out in excruciating detail, just hinted at.
