I think most people share your opinion. This storyline doesn't quite work in the MCU for a lot of reasons, but it especially shows when it comes to Steve & Tony, because their relationship in the films is pretty shallow and unconvincing, even as an antagonistic one. They just seem like colleagues who don't get along, rather than people who have a meaningful friendship or rivalry. As a result, this conversation has about as much emotional impact as Steve unfollowing Tony's tumblr would.
