Book Jaime is doing a pretty swift 180 on the whole evil Lannister thing, so...
pretty much the polar opposite of Walter White's progression.

Yup. But even before that, everyone else was doing much more horrible stuff so I understand fans giving him a pass because there's so many other worse villains. He's fairly average as far as morality goes in GoT whereas Walt stands out more as awful.

I think it's also fairly obvious in the books that some of the conception that he was evil was bias because he's a Lannister.

His reasons for killing the Mad King were pretty fucking good reasons, all things considered.

Not sure how I feel about the implication that a lot of his "evil" actions were because of Cersei, but it is what it is.
