Ah, see, I don't necessarily gravitate towards those sorts of "relatable" character. I'm more interested in epic characters. So the Hobbits, apart from Bilbo and later on in the books Sam, never really did much for me.

Yeah, in my case, having faces onscreen does help me grow fonder of some characters. Like when I first read the books (back in my teens some time) I didn't really get all that attached to any of the human characters. The movies did that for me, and I wholly admit that having a good-looking face on quite a few of them made me actually pay attention long enough to properly appreciate their stories.

That makes sense. I just really like epic things. I don't feel the need to relate. The bigger the scale, the more likely I am to like something. I think that's one reason I prefer the Silmarillion to LOTR or the Hobbit.
