They took a gun wielding raccoon and a tree that only says I am Groot, and made them into compelling and tragic characters.

This.

This statement doesn't apply whatsoever. The Abnett/Lanning run of GotG, which was the movie's primary inspiration, is generally regarded by Marvel comics readers as being pretty fantastic all up (along with Marvel Cosmic as a whole at the time), whereas Civil War was a complete and utter mess.

This statement would only make sense if the only reference we have GotG was Bendis' current run, which is completely awful.

ehhhhhhhhhhhh I thought Age of Ultron was pretty bad. I was incredibly bored, even watching it on an airplane. And I feel no need to watch it again.

I thought Age of Ultron was highly unpleasant. I like most MCU films and flat-out adore CA:TWS, but Age of Ultron is just...ugh.

Have to agree(with all the comments above, I mean), I've pretty much edited AoU out of my personal headcanon, except for Scarlet Witch *and* Quicksilver (him dying was stupid).

I'm not a comics person so I have no idea how bad Age of Ultron was in the comics, but I thought it was a pretty weak movie, tbh.

The comics are terrible. That's all they're saying imo. The film was meh but still far better than it could have been.
