I don't really like either!

In what I read of Narnia, I got this weird feeling like Lewis had a very narrow idea of what Christian morality should be like, but also had natural inclinations that kept undermining it. I couldn't point to a specific example that really stood out to me--it was more a general feeling of incoherence in the story's moral themes.

On the other hand, Pullman seriously needed to step off the goddamn soapbox. Anger is seldom a good emotion with which to write, especially when worldbuilding. I also didn't like how binary it all felt, like you could only be a bad guy who was a religious person or a good guy who agreed with Pullman's ideas.

I'm tempted to say that Narnia was better, but I at least finished reading His Dark Materials, and I wouldn't attempt to read Narnia again if you paid me.

That is some nasty looking pie, though.

Wait, how is pie related to H/Hr? It's not even wizard-y pie??

The HP fandom was so odd about taking one line from one fanfic and just running with it forever weren't they...

HP fandom was very good about having ship names, rather than portmanteaus or name/name. H/Hr., I believe was the HMS Pumpkin Pie.

Ironically I used to think Pumpkin Pie was Ron/Hermione.

God, that could've gotten me into some serious shipwar confusion. O_o Fortunately I mostly steered clear of ship wars.

It's just so weird. How did they keep track of ships? How did new people figure things out? It's so fascinating.

Are the other ships also pies? Who got key lime?

IIRC, Neville/Luna was The Government Stole My Toad

Meanwhile, I totally made pumpkin pie one Thanksgiving as a slight towards the batshit H/Hr shippers. :)

...DO they eat pumpkin pie in the UK? I'm curious now. It seems so American but I honestly have no idea.

The Sorted Food guys do refer to pumpkin pie as an American dish, but then they go ahead and make a Pumpkin/Pecan Pie" that I want to make so, so bad. I would for sure forgo the dusting of powdered sugar though.

So, I imagine it's one of those things that came from America but isn't America-exclusive anymore. Much like all the non-American foods we eat.

What's your favorite American food?

While I suppose its American-ness could be in question, give me a good steak any day.

I'm pretty sure the average British family would eat a pumpkin pie just fine, but they would be less common than apple or mince pies.

And they drink pumpkin juice in HP, so the wizarding world is familiar with pumpkins.
