I definitely think people overstate the darkness of asoiaf! Sure they're dark, but there are genuinely good people that don't die (yet) and the bad guys often get what's coming to them.

This isn't quite the same thing you're asking, but I saw Jumanji the first time when I was really little and it terrified me. So for the longest time I genuinely thought it was a horror movie, it wasn't till I watched it again years later that I realized it's actually a comedy, lol.

To be fair, it's a comedy with a lot of Fridge Horror, to use a TV Tropes term. Although you may have been too young to catch onto that?

Yeah I mean, I didn't think about it deeply. I just remember seeing the part where the kid's in a car that almost gets trampled by the stampede, and of course the hunter guy was terrifying...I just really thought of it as like, a horror movie for grown ups.
