nayrt - I don't know the dude or his work, but what you quoted just sounds silly and self deprecating, not even close to being in the league of people like Anne Rice, Diana Gabaldon or Laurell K. Hamilton.

Well, he should go learn from the greats :P

Considering that he has written one of the most blatant Gary-Stus I have seen in recent years (and I do not use this term lightly), I'm not so quick to assume that he's being satirical or self-deprecating when he says that no other author can possibly suffer from this affliction as much as he does.

There's a big difference between writing a character who's insufferable and being an insufferable author, though. Rice, Hamilton and Gabaldon have all thrown legendary public tantrums. In comparison, maybe believing you're a special snowflake and Not Like Other Writers is small potatoes, IMO.
