the way everything is right now, i really don't blame you. just crawl into the warm, delicious, tauntaun-like belly of a brie en croute and stay there till all the shit blows over.

food is safety, food is love.

I just bought a brie en croute at Trader Joes and will not be able to cut into it without thinking of Empire Strikes Back. (Not that that's bad...)

I didn't know you could buy them premade! This is important information.

I'd totally watch more of the Food channel but it's less about cooking and more about "TV personalities" for whom cooking is (maybe) a secondary skill.

Before I stopped watching TV the only thing I watched were documentaries...so I get you.

I get that. There is just something about listening/watching people competently apply their craft while being charismatic. It's why I loved listening to Car Talk, even though I have little interest in cars.

What cooking shows do you watch?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
America's Test Kitchen, Top Chef, and Good Eats for me. Cutthroat Kitchen is good too if you don't mind goofy, over-the-top things.

I've met Chris Kimball (the pleasantly nerdy science teacher-type guy from America's Test Kitchen). He was super nice and funny.

Food shows are good. Whether it's the sort that more features the personality of the cook, location, or a general theme (like shows starring Heston Blumenthal, Nigela Lawson, Jamie Oliver, or travel shows about the food of various cultures), or is the sort of show that is actually teaching how to make things, I love them. The type I'm not a fan of is the big cooking "reality" shows like Masterchef or My Kitchen Rules. I'm not fond of the competition factor and just want someone showing cool food and how it's cooked (whether it's high or low in detail about the method).

One of my favourite shows for cooking? Better Homes And Gardens - and Australian variety show that includes stuff about building, renovating, gardening and pets as well as cooking.

...I also rewatch stuff like "Heston's Feasts" and "Supersizers Go..." on YouTube.

I love Supersizers Go! I was so sad when I found out it was only 12 episodes.

"...and pets as well as cooking. "

My mind garbled the end of that sentence together, and for a moment I was VERY worried about what Australia was doing with their pets!

Teaching them not to misbehave, mostly.

For me it's the Travel Channel. I get you.
